Organically Grown Cotton & Fair Trade

Despite cotton's image as being a natural and pure fiber, conventional cotton farming takes an enormous toll on the air, water, soil and people who live in cotton growing areas.

Conventionally grown cotton is responsible for nearly 25% of the world's insecticide use and more than 10% of the world's synthetic pesticide use - more than any other crop. Conventional growing methods are extremely damaging to the environment and to us - thousands of conventional cotton farm workers (including children) die from the use of dangerous fertilisers and pesticides. The pesticides and synthetic fertilizers used on cotton routinely contaminate groundwater, surface water and pollute the water we drink. Fish, birds and other wildlife are also affected by the movement of these chemicals through the ecosystem.

Organic Procedures DO NOT use Toxic Chemical Insecticides or Petrochemical Fertilisers. The crops are weeded by hand and the farmers use natural pest control (ie: beneficial predator insects, like ladybirds)

Organic Procedures DO NOT use Genetically Modified seeds.

Organically grown cotton is ideal for sensitive baby skin as it is hypoallergenic -
Many people find that, by using organic cotton, symptoms of eczema may be greatly improved or even avoided.

Fair Trade ensures the welfare of farm workers, weavers, their families and the local communities. The employees receive a fair wage, the community benefits from various projects and the workers are not subjected to the dangers of using harmful chemicals.
